We get a lot of wonderful questions about engravings — what can be written, where it appears, and how long it can be. Consider this your complete answer.

Section 01

Short Engravings — Up to 12 Characters

Short engravings are perfect for initials, a name, or a brief date. These pieces have a smaller engraveable area, so brevity is key. Note the placement column — some pieces are engraved on the inside (against the skin) and some on the outside (visible).

Section 02

Standard Engravings — Up to 20 Characters

These pieces have a generous engraveable surface that comfortably fits a name plus a date, a short phrase, or a brief scripture. Perfect when you want a little more than just initials but don't need a full sentence.

Section 03

Long Engravings — Up to 40 Characters

These pieces are designed to hold a full sentence, a meaningful phrase, or a longer personal message. They're our most expressive engraving option — and the Embrace and Shimmer Embrace are also our top recommendation for handwriting engravings, since the extra space keeps the script readable and legible.

Pieces with Specific Engraving Formats

Some bracelets were designed with a particular kind of personalization in mind. These pieces don't follow the general character-limit rules — each one is meant to receive a specific type of engraving that fits its purpose and design.

Section 05

Pieces That Cannot Be Engraved

None of the twist cuffs, the Wave Cuff, nor the Ribbon of Daisies can be engraved — the twisted or textured surface doesn't allow for the clean, lasting impression that engraving requires. These pieces are stunning on their own and hold inherent meaning, and many stack beautifully alongside an engravable cuff.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

Character limits are per listing. Each product page lists the maximum number of characters for that exact piece — always check before finalizing your text so nothing gets cut off.
Spaces and punctuation count. Spaces, commas, apostrophes, and periods all count toward your total. "12.14.2019" is 10 characters, not 8.
Proofread carefully. Engravings are permanent. Double-check spelling, dates, and names before submitting — we aren't able to make corrections after an order is placed.
Capitalization matters. Enter your engraving exactly as you'd like it to appear — all caps, title case, or lowercase. What you type is what gets engraved.
